Archive for thaimelbournetransport.myfastforum.org A great place to discuss transport issues in Melbourne and Thailand. Plus discussion from anywhere around Asia. Covers Buses, SRT, MRT, BTS, Boat, trams etc
We love to travel using local transport and are currently planning a stay that depends significantly of the status of the Skytrain extensions to Charoen Nakhon as well as from On Nut to the airport.
Have not had much luck getting an April 2009 view of a drop dead date, but it seems that Charoen Nakhon will be in full swing by May. What about the Airport?
Both of us are 63 and the Skytrain, along with the river ferries, allows us to skip the wear and tear that massive traffic jams create.
Thanks

The Wong Wien Yai BTS extension finally opens on 15th May 2009. (Only 5 years Late!!)
The Airport link is meant to open on 5th December 2009. (Only 2 years Late!)
The Bangna BTS extension is due to open in 2011 and is still under construction at this stage as it makes its way south along sukhumvit road.

Is there a site(s) where you can see maps of the BTS and MRT Systems, present service, under construction and proposed routes. I seem to have run across something like this several years ago but am unable to find any now.
English language would be preferable however with Googles recent translation service, this may cover this information.
Off topic, is there any way to get that NUDUAN Plus translated into English. Google does not seem to be able to do it.
Thanks
BTW, just found this blog/site this evening and must compliment you on all the info and pictures. My ID may be BusHappy as I was involved in long distance scheduled service in the US for 55 years, 35 as a Trailways Driver, then dispatchung and finally over 20 years in tickets sales and supervision in New York City. But have always been into trains - tried to get on firing a steam engine back when they had them but I wore glasses and they would not hire me on without 20/20 vision as they felt, rightly so, that after so many years of looking into those fireboxes, your eyes would eventually deteriorate. So went to my second choice of Interstate Buses and retired from driving early but still with a 2 Million Mile Safety Award from Continental Trailways. Not pattin my own back, just to let you know where I am coming from. GOOd luck with the Blog and pics.
