Today I went with Metro_transit on an afternoon of riding buses and trains in Bangkok and Mahachai city. He really enjoyed it and he now understands a lot of what i post on this board as what really happens in Bangkok and he has many pictures to share with everyone.

The trip today:
Started about 10.40am
Bus 113 (non aircond)
Bus 529 (aircond)
Bus 120 (non aircond)
SRT: Mahachai commuter train
Bus 85 (non aircond)
Bus 113 (aircond)
Ended about 7pm

I will let him write the trip report and post his pics as he feels. So I hope everyone is looking forward to seeing the pics and reading the trip report. He will be back in Melbourne by the weekend.

Well here is a typical DMU used in Thailand, this one is seen parked at a rail yard in Mahachai near Bangkok.

It looks very similar to something that operates in Australia, but i can't think what it might be, somthing in Queensland i think?

The 159 pulling into the bus stop at the MBK Center in Bangkok.

The 38 on Ratchathewi road (i think) Correction this is on Petchaburi road near Pantip plaza (Railex)

The number 77, these are Mercedes buses, they are pretty small and were designed for the smaller streets, these things are about 30 - 40 years old and the smoke that comes out of them, gives the impression that they are coal powered. Extra info these hold 42 people when full.

This is the number 50, this one is a bit newer than the other buses, is an Isuzu.

This is a fishing boat in the port town of Mahachai, they had just unloaded the catch as we walked through, boy did it stink of fish!

This is the entrance to the station. It was down a very short lane way which was clogged with Tuk-tuks and bicycles.

This is the yard on the DOWN side at the station, the platform is bearly a step off the ground and we went for a wander through there and no one really cared.

This is the rail maintenance building, there was a train in there being repaired on, which it must have needed it as all the trains looked like they needed some attention. We didn't go inside because that might have been pushing it a bit too much.

Thats the view UP from the station, those white name board signs apear at every station, some are in desperate need for a coat of paint and some need replacing, but not all have those flags on them either.

This is inside the train we got back to Bangkok, it was very plain, very old but wasn't in too bad of condition either. As the platform was almost at ground level there were steps at the door, wouldn't be much use to someone in a wheelchair.

This was taken when our train came to a passing loop, still very much human operated round here.
