Echuca to Geelong

Is there anything wrong with this idea. Run a passenger service from Echuca to Geelong. Via Bendigo, Maryborough, Ballarat. It could be incorporated into the Bendigo-Echuca service. And would mean half the state wouldnt have to change trains in Melbourne to go cross country.Plus connect most of our regional cities.
How bad are the lines?
And why is the Bendigo-Echuca so slow? 60kph on a hot day.
