Typical bloody politicians! Always the first to condemn loss-making services, but always expecting a free lunch themselves at the same time:

Transport Minister to request SRT and Transport Co. to lower fares
The Transport Minister, Adm. Thira Haocharoen (ธีระ ห้าวเจริญ), plans to ask the State Railway of Thailand (SRT) and the Transport Company Limited to reduce their transport fares during the election period. Thus, people would be encouraged to cast their ballots in their hometown. The decision is expected to finalize in the next two weeks.

Following the Cabinet meeting yesterday (November 13th), Adm. Thira says the Ministry of Transport together with the Royal Thai Police will jointly facilitate commuters during the coming polls.

Adm. Thira says the SRT and the Transport Company Limited will be asked to lower their transport fares as well. The discount will be similar to the fare reduction during the constitution referendum in August this year. The SRT gave 50 percent discount for third-class tickets while the Transport Company Limited also lowered the fares by 50 percent. At the same time, the Bangkok Mass Transit Authority (BMTA) provided public transport services free of charge.
