What do you think is a good level of service for a local bus in Melbourne?

In terms of frequency per hour and hours of operation per day.

This is my view on what Melbourne's bus system can support.

Minimum standard routes:

Frequency's and hours of operation:

(Weekdays Monday to Friday)
5am to 6am every 30 mins (4.30am in outer areas)
6am to 10am every 15 mins
10am to 3.30pm every 30 mins
3.30pm to 7.30pm every 15 mins (8.30pm in outer areas)
7.30pm to 11pm every 30mins (12am in outer areas)

weekends every 30mins from (6am to 11pm SAT) and (7am to 10pm SUN)

Smartbus and major routes:

Frequency's and hours of operation:

(Weekdays Monday to Friday)
4am to 5.30am every 30 mins
5.30am to 9.30am every 10 mins
[Limited stop trips every 15 mins between 6am and 10am]
9.30am to 3.30pm every 15mins
3.30pm to 8pm every 10mins
[limited stop trips every 15mins between 4pm and 8pm]
8pm to 11pm every 15 mins
11pm to 1am every 30 mins

(Weekends Saturday,Sunday and public hoildays)
5am to 7am every 30 mins
7am to 10pm every 15 mins [Saturday every 15 mins from 6am]
10pm to 1am every 30 mins

This will make buses more usefull at peak times and during the day on weekends. The limited stop trips for smartbus will speed up longer trips at peak times thus helping more people to use the smartbuses. Melbourne's population is more than big enough for this kind of service level.

Brisbane currently operates close to this frequency 7 days a week on some routes. Thus Melbourne can too on smartbus

What do others think of this?
