Just wanted to know what is the status of a Melbourne airport rail link.
Also would it be possible for the current Albion-Jacana goods line to become electrified with stations at Sunshine North, Keilor East, Westfield Shopping town Airport West and Gowanbrae. The airport line could branch off this.
The simplest way of creating a rail link to Tullamarine airport is from the Broadmeadows line. running into an underground balloon loop i.e. station with a single platform and the line runs as a loop to turn back.
These trains run as limited stop to Melbourne. ie airport - Broadmeadows - Essendon- north melb - Spencer st - Flinders st every 10 mins from 4am to 1am 7days aweek. This line will be known as the airport link.
Run some of these trains though to Werribee (connects with express bus to Avalon airport), Ringwood, Dandenong, Frankston. these trains then will stop all stations on these line and the every 10 mins service splits into and every 40 mins service for each line. These every 40 mins trains are given special status ie must run and other can be cancelled to ensure they run on time. if the need to do this is required.
People in the western suburbs can use high frequency buses. ie laverton - deer park - sunshine- st albans -airport limited stops
or airport - broadmeadows - upfield- Epping- bundoora-greensbrough-doncaster-Blackburn limited stops.
Bus Frequency every 10 mins peak and every 15 mins off peak/weekends from 4am to 1am.
