THE first train will cross the Friendship Bridge between Thailand and Laos next week, when test running begins on the Nong Khai – Ben Thanaleng line.

The 23.5 km line is the first section of a line linking Thailand with the Laotian capital Vientiane.

In April Thailand’s Prime Minister Mr Samak Sundaravek pledged Baht 900 million ($US 29 million) towards the remaining 9 km section of the line. Construction of this section is already underway.
