Bangkok - A speeding pickup truck smashed into a road barrier Tuesday after cutting in front of a Thai police car, killing five people, police said.
Police said the accident occurred at 2:30 am at the foot of the Bangkok Noi Bridge in Nonthaburi province, neighbouring the capital.
According to Police Lieutenant Colonel Annuwat Waraekseri the pickup was speeding to cut in front of a police patrol car when it smacked into a road meridian barrier and burst into flames.
A passenger in the front seat of the vehicle was hurled through the window and died. The other four passengers burned to death, said Annuwat.
Police suspect the driver of the vehicle had been drinking.
